Why visit the south of Portugal in the low season?

Great: For the ninth time and for the fourth time in a row, the Algarve is awarded the coveted “World Travel Award” as Europe's best beach destination.

What an extraordinary surprise. In the sunny hot lunchtime of this summer, it has been shown every now and then around the pool.

Just in time for the start of the bathing season on June 1, two environmental organizations rated the quality of the beaches in Portugal. The Environmental Association has awarded the quercus 440 Portuguese bathing area award "Golden Quality 2022", which is 47 beaches more than in the previous year.

Portugal's Sun Coast wins the most important "Oscar of the tourism industry" for the second time in a row.

With the award as "World's Leading Beach Destination 2021", Portugal's popular sun coast wins the highest award in the tourism industry after 2020 for the second time.

World Travel Award - Oscar for the Algarve

At the World Travel Awards, the Algarve was awarded as Europe's best beach destination for the third time in a row. Also known as "Oscars of the Tourism Industry". They will be awarded for best performance in worldwide tourism.

EasyJet has stationed another aircraft on the Airport Faro in order to create around 30 direct jobs on the Algarve. The Portuguese EasyJet fleet is growing to 13 planes, 4 in Faro, 5 in Lisbon and 4 in Porto. "Since the beginning of the pandemic, Easyjet continued to invest in Portugal, opened a new base in Faro in June 2021 and the Portug. fleet increased by 60%".

The Marina Vilamoura was awarded by the Yacht Harbor Association (TYHA) as the best international Marina of the year 2021 with 825 moorings (boats with length up to 60m), a boatyard and a training center for top competitions. The election result is based primarily at the "level of the services offered and the quality owners available infrastructure".

A current study by the travel portal Momondo has now named Portugal the best country in Europe for road trips. 31 European countries were analyzed using an index with six categories: climate, security, infrastructure, price, traffic, sustainability, car rental, nature & attractions.

Portugal received very high scores for criteria such as road quality, natural wealth, sights and rental car prices as well as hours of sunshine per year, low air pollution and traffic. Spain, Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden, Slovenia, Finland, Denmark, Italy and Iceland come next.

If that's not nice - what else?

The airports Faro, Lisbon and Porto have been honored by ACI Europe (Airports International Organization) for their commitment to the safety of passengers in connection with the pandemic.

They received awards for the "Best Airport" and the "Best Hygiene Measures".

Simply great!

The Algarve was named Europe's leading beach destination for the seventh time at the World Travel Awards.

Thank you very much, dear guests!!!

Once again you have donated € 200 for the street animals of the Algarve, this in favor of the animal shelter "Canil São Francisco de Assis in Loulé, www.canilsfa.pt.

I also donated € 200 from Retiro, this time for "ARA", also a local animal welfare organization in Loulé. www.animalrescuealgarve.com

Both are very committed to animal welfare in the Algarve.

The Algarve - a safe bet! 😎

Countries like Portugal are among the safest in the world. Three beaches have recently been awarded the "European Safest Beaches 2020". The Algarve is one of the least affected regions of the corona virus in Europe and therefore remains a popular sunbathing destination this summer.

International airlines such as Lufthansa, Swiss, easyJet, Luxair Tours, Transavia or Ryanair fly to the Algarve again. Edelweiss resumed holiday flights on May 28 and the first flight went from Zurich to Faro.

The Portuguese government has informed of how to proceed. The state of emergency ended on May 2nd and due to the very good development, the country is now gradually being opened every two weeks.

Fortunately, Portugal is not severely affected by the virus and especially not the Algarve.

From May 4th smaller shops open. Individual sports such as golf, tennis or surfing possible.

From May 18th restaurants with 50% occupancy, museums and palaces will open.

From June 1st beaches, shopping centers, large stores, cinemas and theaters will open.

Good news - Portugal is waking up again

For once no crowded streets in Lisbon and certainly not in the Algarve! The Portuguese are calm and disciplined and stay at home.

Does the virus also have its positive effects?

I think so. We will have to learn to walk again to find our way back to normal without fear. Take the situation seriously, yes, but also decide with common sense and listen to our good feeling. We will simply have to live with the risk of infection in the future.

Is "higher, further, faster..." really desirable everywhere and growth the measure of all things? The little virus forces us to rethink the old. So also in tourism. Are crowded cities or beaches worth visiting?

No.

I am convinced: LESS is MORE for everyone! But in above average quality.

For once it has become quiet in the Algarve. Everything stands still. It's time for a break.

Time to think.

Time for mutual respect and solidarity.

Time to get back to basics.

A heartfelt thank you for trust and loyalty

The Algarve is the best golf region in the world. The award as a top destination was given for 2020.

The golf experts were impressed by the very large selection of first-class courses, the very good value for money and the now 43 diverse golf courses along the rock and sand Algarve, which are easily accessible via Faro Airport.

The new gravel path leads directly from the pool to the hammocks.

If it gets too hot under the umbrellas by the pool - under the shady almond trees, it's just heavenly to lie down.

Portugal's South Coast has been honored for the sixth time as Europe's leading beach destination at the World Travel Awards.

This honor has been given to the beaches of the Algarve in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017. No other destination in Europe has ever received so many awards at the World Travel Awards.
